Ten Frugal Father’s Day Ideas

1. King for a Day.

This one is sure to please. Let Dad be King for a Day! He gets full reign over the TV remote plus the couch all to himself! If the remote is a frequent battle that Dad loses in your home, he is sure to love this idea! Let him decide what’s for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. Whatever Dad says goes today!

2. Do the Yard Work For Him.

The only thing better than having a fantastic looking yard is knowing you didn’t have to lift a finger or spend a dime to get it looking that way. Give your Dad the morning off and do the yard work for him. Mow the yard, trim the edges, and mulch the flower beds for bonus points.

3. Cook Dad his Favorite Meal.

What does your Dad love to eat? Is there a special family recipe he loves? Maybe a meal his mom or grandmother used to make him as a child? You know what they say—the fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! So hop in the kitchen and whip him up a meal he’ll not soon forget.

4. Write Him a Letter.

You can do this for your own Dad or for the father of your kids, or get your kids to write Dad a letter. My 8-year-old has recently started writing me letters, and I tell you I cherish every single one of them. But even if you are fully grown, you can still write Dad a heartfelt letter, telling him how much he means to you, how he’s impacted your life, all the lessons you are grateful he taught you, your favorite memory of him, and how much you love him. He will love it, I promise, and it won’t cost you a thing.

5. Wash His Car.

Who doesn’t love a car that’s been freshly cleaned and waxed, vacuumed inside, and bursting with that new car scent? Get out the garden hose and bucket of soapy water. Condition those leather seats. Armor-All that dash. With a little bit of time and elbow grease, you can give your Dad a thoughtful gift he will love.

6. Clean Out and Organize the Garage for Him.

If your Dad’s domain is the garage, consider giving it a little face lift by cleaning it out and organizing it for him. Make it a place he’d love to be in. All it takes is a little time and effort.

7. Spend Time With Him Doing His Favorite Activity.

What does your Dad love to do? Whatever it is, spend time with him on Father’s Day doing something he loves. Whether it’s hiking, watching his favorite TV show, his favorite sports team, fishing, whatever. If Dad loves to do it, this Father’s Day, take an interest in it and spend some quality time with Dad.

If you feel like you absolutely must get dad a gift, below are some pretty affordable options the Dad on your list is sure to love.

8. Get Him an RTIC Tumbler. Get Dad an RTIC tumbler to keep his drinks icy cold. If he’s a beer drinker, consider throwing in a six-pack of his favorite beverage, too. Extra credit for adding a decal of his favorite sports team.

9. Get Him a Swiss Army Knife Classic. This particular Swiss Army Knife gives Dad all the tools he will need for an “everyday carry” which my husband tells me is a “thing.” It contains a 1.25" blade, nail file with screwdriver, scissors, key ring, tweezers, and toothpick. My husband has this model (among many others) and carries this one everyday. He loves it because he has all the tools he needs within reach at all times. He also really loves that this model contains scissors—which he says are always coming in handy. Some places will even monogram Swiss Army Knives for a small fee, which makes the gift extra special. This knife is a steal and currently on sale for 27% off. It’s only $15.00 right now and qualifies for 2-day delivery with Amazon Prime.

10. Get Dad a BBQ Set. If the Dad on your list loves to grill, consider gifting him a new grill set. This option is so good looking, currently under $25, and qualifies for 2-day delivery with Amazon Prime. Bonus points for spending time grilling with Dad once you deliver your gift!

Whatever you decide to do for Dad for Father’s Day, just remember that there are tons of thoughtful ways to make Dad’s day that don’t have to break the bank! With a little bit of time and thought, you can make this Father’s Day a special day for Dad.
